[ 01 ] — About the Role
This is our premium reading band — backing guest entertainers and performing party sets. The format is a five-piece reading band: Keys, Bass, Drums, Guitar, and a Female Vocalist. The repertoire spans pop, rock, soul, and contemporary chart material.
This is a highly sought-after placement. Musicians placed here are typically those with proven reading credentials, strong ensemble experience, and the stage presence to perform in some of the most impressive live settings in the industry.
Hosting Skills Vocalists will need confident hosting skills as they will introduce and handle guest acts for the venue.

[ 04 ] — What We're Looking For
All Roles
- Strong, confident sight-reading — this is a reading band and the primary technical requirement.
- Proven experience in a professional ensemble context. This is not a first-time reading gig.
- Stage presence and performance quality consistent with a flagship entertainment product on a premium vessel.
- Professionalism in every sense — as a musician, a colleague, and a representative of the cruise line.
- Resilience for life onboard: sharing a working environment with your bandmates around the clock over a multi-month assignment.
- Confident with in-ear monitoring and working with a live sound engineer.
Keys
- Strong reading across a wide range of styles and keyboard voices.
- Ability to serve as accompanist and as a lead voice — the Keys role here is versatile.
- Comfortable with a professional stage rig, in-ear monitoring, and live sound environments.
Bass
- Exceptional time and groove across styles — pop and rock feel are both essential.
- Reading fluency that holds up under live performance pressure, night after night.
- Ensemble-first mentality: this chair requires listening and locking, not showboating.
Drums
- Clean, musical reading with dynamic control across ballads, uptempo material, and everything in between.
- Comfortable playing alongside in-ear monitoring and click track where required.
- Consistent quality across a long run of shows — this band performs regularly throughout the assignment.
Guitar
- Fluent reader comfortable across rhythm and lead duties within the same set.
- Well-rounded tonal range — clean, rhythm crunch, and lead sounds all required.
- Collaborative player who works with the rhythm section rather than competing with it.
Female Vocalist
- Exceptional vocal range, power, and control. This is a lead vocalist position on flagship ships — the standard is high.
- Strong stage presence and the ability to engage a large, diverse crowd as the sole front-person.
- Wide stylistic range: pop, rock, soul, and contemporary chart material all feature in the repertoire.
- Vocal stamina to sustain quality across a full multi-month assignment.
- Confident and friendly host who is able direct and hold an audience for a whole evening.
Whilst not essential, musicians with both musical theatre experience and jazz-chops are desirable for this product.
[ 05 ] — The Deal
All musicians are employed directly by the client under a Seafarers' Employment Agreement — not through Sonic Artistes, and not as freelancers.
Assignment Length
Typically 4 or 6 months onboard, followed by a rest period. Length depends on vessel scheduling and availability.
Pay
Monthly consolidated salary via PAYE, processed by Fleet Maritime Services. Tax handled automatically.
Accommodation & Meals
Accommodation, all meals, and laundry included — no living costs during the assignment.
Travel
International flights and port hotels arranged and covered.
Medical
ENG1 (or approved equivalent) seafarer's medical certificate required before joining. Company covers pre-employment medical costs and renewals.

Performing on a ship is a genuinely impressive credit. These are world-class ships with professional entertainment infrastructure and large, engaged audiences. But the lifestyle is demanding: regular performances, close proximity with bandmates, and the expectation of representing the cruise line at all times.
Musicians who make the most of a placement here come prepared — musically, practically, and mentally. The preparation we put in at the audition and onboarding stage is designed to make sure that if you join this band, you're ready for it.

Discovery call (optional)
A conversation about your background, experience, and what you're looking for.

Audition
Async video, live online, or in-person. Reading ability is assessed as part of this process.

Roster approval and compliance
Once approved, we'll guide you through the full seafarer documentation process.

Assignment
When a position opens that's right for you, we'll be in touch. Roster membership is the prerequisite.
